Trimetrics Physiotherapy clinic is currently the only clinic in Canada to offer meditation instruction (Chopra) by a Registered Physiotherapist. Clients may be referred for a basic teaching session when it is a stated component of their physiotherapy care pan to manage acute or chronic stress and/ or, pain.
This 7000-year-old practice is now finding new and timely purpose as an effective stress management tool based on a growing of neuroscientific research, spearheaded by Dr Deepak Chopra and Dr Joe Di Spenza and many others.
The broader medical community is now gaining deeper understanding that the stress we experience associated with pain and chronic disease which takes us to the “fight flight freeze “may be alleviated greatly with meditation. Injury, disease and general life stress, even the burden of our own thoughts can create a constant overstimulation of our “fight flight freeze “system generating excess cortisol.
When left unchecked, this response seeds chronic inflammation that underpins so much illness physical and mental. It is stated by Dr Chopra that 85% of all known human illness: cardiovascular, autoimmune, arthritis even depression is now linked with this excess cortisol production.
The magnificence of the human system is that we are in fact, wired for whole health where the mind and body work as partners. We are programmed for self-repair and self-regulation at every level of our cells. It’s easy to forget that our natural state of being is in fact to be peaceful and calm since this is where all the body functions can optimally function and repair as needed.
A stressed mind / body cannot heal effectively. When we practice simple effortless meditation every day, we are not learning anything new only reconnecting with the gift of self-healing that is already within us.
As physiotherapists and movement teachers we work daily with individuals suffering pain from injury, chronic issues, post-surgery or in pain from life stress.
As industry leaders, at Trimetrics we understand that to be in alignment with current neuroscience, our healing work with the body will me most effective when we also work with the mind in gentle effective ways that create whole and sustainable health.
