Dr. Cherie Kuo
Physiotherapist
Cherie is originally from Taipei, Taiwan and is passionate about helping her
clients improve their daily functioning by leveraging her clinical skills in
physiotherapy and knowledge in rehabilitation sciences.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the National Taiwan
University. She then pursued and earned her Masters of Science as well as
Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University in New York. Prior to moving to
Vancouver, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Calgary and
University of California in Davis. Her research work focused on improving upper
extremity functions by studying the brains in children with early brain injury
(perinatal stroke) using advanced neuroscience techniques (such as
neuroimaging and non-invasive brain stimulation).
Cherie was a research physiotherapist before moving to North America. She
practiced in both hospital and research lab settings. One of Cherie’s clinical
passions is to help individuals with neurological conditions (such as stroke)
across lifespan improve their functional capacity by providing personalized,
evidence-based rehabilitation and training. She is keen to learn how to integrate
clinical Pilates in her treatment strategies with her teammates of Trimetrics and
Parkway Physiotherapy to help her clients improve their quality of life.
In her free time, Cherie enjoys jogging, yoga, hiking, exploring foods in
Vancouver, and spending time with her cat and her husband.
Cherie joined the Trimetrics Physiotherapy team with extensive experiences working with
patients of all ages. Her academic trainings gave her many opportunities to work one-on-one with children with early brain injuries, which inspired her to tailor individualized treatment plans to meet her client’s needs via well-designed functional and goal-oriented activities. Aside from her general interest in improving the quality of life of her clients with a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions, she is particularly enthusiastic about working with clients with neurological conditions (such as stroke) as she believes in the tremendous capacity that may be trained and restored after a neurological injury (termed “neuroplasticity”). Cherie is looking forward to meeting new clients of the Trimetrics Physiotherapy in the North Shore community.
